Carnegie Mellon Earns Third Consecutive ECAC Bowl Bid - Tartans to Play Muhlenberg

From Carnegie Mellon University Athletics

After finishing the regular season with a 7-3 overall record for the third straight season, the Carnegie Mellon University football team was selected to play in the 2017 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Asa S. Bushnell Bowl Championship on Saturday, November 18 against Muhlenberg College.

All four ECAC Bowl games will be played at a neutral site with the University of Delaware serving as host in Newark, Delaware. The Tartans and Mules will kick off Saturday at 11:00 a.m. on the turf of Delaware Stadium.

This will mark the Tartans sixth trip to an ECAC Bowl, as they hold a 3-2 mark. The Tartans three wins in ECAC Bowl play came in 1999, 2007 and 2015. The Cardinal and Gray traveled to Frostburg State University and came away with a 28-10 victory in 1999, then hosted Gettysburg College and put together a come-from-behind 21-20 victory in 2007. The third win for the Tartans came in 2015 when they defeated Bridgewater Sate, 48-13, in the Legacy Bowl, which was held at Central Connecticut State.

When the Tartans and Mules meet on Saturday, it will mark the fourth meeting between the two schools. Carnegie Mellon holds a 2-1 edge in the series. The Mules won the first meeting in 1941 by the score of 26-6 before the Tartans won back-to-back meetings in 1996 and 1997. Carnegie Mellon won 23-20 at Muhlenberg in 1996 before topping the Mules, 28-13, the following year in Pittsburgh.
