Three Chicago Softball Players Earn NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete Status

CHICAGO, Ill. -- Three members of the University of Chicago softball team were named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athletes for the 2012-13 school year. The recognition is reserved for student-athletes who achieve a 3.5 or better GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Senior outfielder Kaitlyn Carpenter, senior catcher/infielder Julia Covello and graduated senior outfielder Jacqueline Ryan received the NFCA honors. In the 2013 season, Carpenter finished with a .368 batting average, a team-best three homers, 16 RBI and a team-high 11 stolen bases. Covello recorded a .289 batting average with a team-best three home runs to go with 13 RBI. Ryan was named Second Team All-UAA after compiling a .330 batting average, seven RBI and nine stolen bases.
