Joss Cohen's Tally Lifts Violets

Joss Cohen's goal with less than eight minutes to play lifted the New York University men's soccer team to a 1-0 University Athletic Association (UAA) road victory over the University of Chicago on Saturday in the Windy City.

The Violets (3-5-2, 1-1-0) posted their first UAA win of the season, out-lasting last season's NCAA Division III Champions (6-2-3, 1-1-0).

"We executed our game plan to perfection and played with massive heart and determination," said Head Coach Kim Wyant.

The game was scoreless until the 82:47 mark when Cohen netted the contest's only score on an assist from Terra Nagai.

"Joss converted a great chance created by our team play," Wyant explained. "Terra laid the ball off to Joss who finished from just inside the 18-yard box and beat their goalkeeper to the far post. It was a beautiful goal!"

The Maroons out-shot the Violets 22-10, but only 7-5 on goal.

NYU goalkeeper Chaz Bond made seven saves for the shutout.

"We stayed focused and grabbed the momentum late in the game," Wyant added. "I'm just so proud of our performance."
