HOW IT HAPPENED
- vs. UW-Eau Claire
- University of Chicago (9-14, 3-4 UAA) started off Friday with a matchup against WIAC foe UW-Eau Claire. The Maroons had no issue dispatching the Blugolds in straight sets though thanks to an emphasis on limiting errors.
- The team hit .252 during the match including a first and third set where the kills to errors ratios were 17-2 and 18-4 respectively. The defense also did their part by limiting UWEC to just 27 kills over three sets and not allowing them to eclipse 19 points in any game.
- Maggie McInerney led all players with 16 kills and Diya Mishra had four block assists to go along with two solo efforts in the 3-0 victory.
- vs. Illinois Wesleyan
- Friday's slate also contained a faceoff with Illinois Wesleyan, the host team for the weekend. Unfortunately for the Maroons, they couldn't keep the high rate of offensive attacks going in a match that could have gone either way.
- UChicago tried to put a 25-13 first set loss in their rearview mirror but responded with an eight kill, seven error second frame where they fell 25-21. The Maroons tried to push the match past the minimum number of games with an impressive third stanza where they hit .275 with 14 kills but came up just short in a 25-23 defeat.
- McInerney again had double digit kills with 10 and Kennedy Cheung had 15 digs in the losing effort.
- vs. (RV) Millikin
- The most exciting battle of the weekend came in their last match which took place against (RV) Millikin. Each team had 62 kills as both offenses tried to one up the other.
- The Maroons won two of the first three sets by the scores of 27-25 but 25-17 and 25-20 losses in the second and fourth frames set up a winner take all fifth set. UChicago came up big in that game, committing just one error and tallying seven kills in a 15-9 victory.
- McInerney capped off her weekend with a season high 25 kill performance and was one of four Maroon players with at least 11. Mishra had three aces to go along with 12 kills and Maya Patel accumulated 52 assists in the 3-2 win. Both McInerney and Mishra were named to the All-Tournament team after play concluded.
