After three senior days on campus last weekend, it was finally time for University of Chicago women's volleyball to celebrate their outgoing upperclassmen when they welcomed Olivet Nazarene to the Ratner Athletic Center. The Maroons were slow to get out of the gate in the opening set of the game but course corrected quickly to pick up a 3-0 win over the Tigers on Saturday.

RESULT
Olivet Nazarene University – 0 (27, 14, 16)
University of Chicago – 3 (29, 25, 25)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • University of Chicago (10-14) fell behind 6-2 early in the first set but the Olivet Nazarene lead (11-14) didn't last long as a 6-1 run by the Maroons put them back ahead. The frame went back and forth with 15 different ties and three lead changes but 19 UChicago kills allowed them to grab the extra points win 29-27.
  • Compared to set one, the second stanza of the afternoon was a breeze. The Maroons hit .211 and took advantage of 12 Tiger errors. Senior Jillian Amsler had a set high four kills and hit .800 which helped UChicago go up 2-0 with a 25-14 victory.
  • It looked like ONU might push things past the minimum as they showed some fight and managed to pull even five different times with the Maroons in the early portion of the third set. However, tied at 10-10, Chicago went on a 15-6 run to close out the contest with a 25-16 win.
