Gilbert Otoo Leads Brandeis to Sixth Consecutive Win, 74-55, over Salem State

Brandeis University men's basketball junior Gilbert Otoo scored 14 of his 16 season-high points in the first half tonight as the Judges help of Salem State University, 74-55, at the O'Keefe Sports Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Brandeis started strong in the first minute with two different 3-pointers. Brandeis senior Ryan Power (Waltham. Mass./Waltham) connected with assistance from Sophomore Jake Bender (Hope, R.I./St. George's School) right after tip-off, while senior Sam Adusei (Worcester. Mass./St. George's School) hit another, also assisted by Bender. 
  • The Judges opened the game in an 11-2 run against the Vikings in the first two minutes until a timeout by the Vikings. 
  • Brandeis maintained a twelve-point advantage at the half, 38-20, as Otoo scored most of the team's points, including two 3-pointers. 
  • At the start of the second half, the Judges score the first points with a 3-pointer from Adusei, answered by a jumper by the Vikings' Liam Byrne.
  • Brandeis maintained the lead with a 14-8 lead in points in the paint in the second half.
  • The Vikings balanced it with a 14-6 advantage in their bench points, ending the game finishing with an 18-9 advantage.
  • Brandeis hit 42.9% of their field goals, 40% of their 3-pointers, and 76.9% of their free throws to help secure the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Otoo gets his season highs in points (16), 3-point goal made (2), free throws made (2), and also had a game- and career-high in assists (7). 
  • Four different Brandeis players scored in double digits points, compared to Salem State who only had two.
  • In addition to Otoo, Bender and Power each finished with 14 points and Adusei had 13.  
  • Senior Aedan Using (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) just missed making it all five starters to score 10+ points, finishing with eight points, along with a game-high 10 rebounds and five assists.
  • Using's efforts were part of an effort that saw Brandeis double the VIkings' rebounds, 44-22. Power finished with nine boards and Otoo had seven. 
  • The Judges also assisted on 22 of their 27 baskets, led by Otoo's seven helpers and five each from Power and Bender. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  •  After losing two of their first three contests, Brandeis is now on a six- game winning streak.
