Explosive Second Half Leads UChicago To Victory Over Brandeis

University of Chicago men's basketball hit the road for the first time in UAA play this season looking to bounce back from an 0-2 stretch at home last weekend. The Maroons opened up the east coast swing with a trip to Brandeis and used an explosive second half to down the Judges and even up their conference record on the season.

FINAL SCORE
UChicago – 72
Brandeis – 55

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was a tight opening 20 minutes for University of Chicago (10-5, 2-2 UAA) and Brandeis (10-5, 1-3 UAA) as neither team was able to secure more than a four point lead until the closing seconds of the stanza. The UChicago defense did their job by limiting the Judges to just 28 percent shooting from the field and a 6-0 run with the score tied at 22-22 allowed the Maroons to eventually go into the locker room up three thanks to back-to-back trays from Eamonn Kenah and Joe Berry.
  • It was the second half where the Maroons really created some breathing room between themselves and the home team. UChicago made a lights out 71.4 percent of their shots from the field in the final 20 minutes and made 12 of their 14 attempts from the charity stripe.
  • Meanwhile, the defense was pretty much just as effective as they were in the second half and limited the Judges to just ten field goals in the period. The Maroons never trailed in the final half and led by as much as 18 points before settling for the 17-point victory.
