Back home after a 1-1 East Coast road trip, University of Chicago women's basketball kicked off a short stint at home when they hosted Case Western Reserve University. The Maroons headed into the locker rooms down by a few points after a defensive minded first half but stormed back to grab the five-point win over the Spartans on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first quarter saw each team shoot around 40 percent from the field, but Case Western Reserve University (8-9, 1-5 UAA) was able to open the frame on a 16-9 run, putting (RV) University of Chicago (11-6, 4-2 UAA) down by seven early. A 6-1 run of their own gave them just a two-point deficit heading into the second but each team's offense grinded to a halt in the next stanza.
- CWRU shot just 18.7 percent in the second while Chicago didn't do much better at 27.2 percent. The Maroons also had another point added to their comeback efforts after a 10-9 quarter in favor of the Spartans.
- Case Western Reserve started off the third by growing their lead back to six before the Maroons grabbed their first advantage in quite some time with a 7-0 run capped off by a jumper from Ellie Gross to give UChicago the one-point lead. That lead would waffle back and forth but a Kate Gross three pointer with 32 seconds left gave them a three-point lead with ten to go.
- While the Maroons were never able to truly pull away in the fourth thanks to poor shooting from the free throw line, they still held control of the lead for all but 45 seconds in the time remaining. Marissa Powe helped ice the game for UChicago by scoring nine of her team leading 15 points in the stanza as the Maroons move to 4-2 in UAA play in a 64-59 victory.
