UChicago Senior Day Ends In Stalemate

University of Chicago men's soccer celebrated their outgoing class on Sunday before they took on UAA foe Carnegie Mellon. The Maroons and Tartans each found the net quickly after a scoreless first half but both teams left chances on the table in a 1-1 draw at Stagg Field.

RESULT
Carnegie Mellon – 1
UChicago – 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • University of Chicago (7-6-3, 2-0-3 UAA) peppered the Carnegie Mellon (7-4-4, 1-2-2 UAA) net with shots in the first half, outpacing the Tartans to the tune of 12-1. Unfortunately, none of the Maroon shots hit twine in the opening 45 minutes.
  • With CMU also being held scoreless, the two teams entered the second half tied at 0-0. That stalemate ended quickly though when Max Weene snapped a sharp angle kick past the Tartan defense in the 49th minute. The slim lead wouldn't last long however as Carnegie Mellon brought the score even less than ten minutes later.
  • A total of 16 shots were attempted by the two teams in the latter half, including 11 from UChicago, but the lone goal is the only offense the two squads would put up on the scoreboard in what ended up being the Maroons second tie in a row and third overall in 2024.
