Brandeis Finishes Non-Conference Schedule with 4-1 Win over MIT

The Brandeis University men's soccer team notched a season-high four goals tonight as the Judges defeated rivals MIT, 4-1, on Gordon Field in the final non-conference contest of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges opened the scoring in the 21st minute. After they earned a corner kick, junior Rainer Osselmann-Chai (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough Regional) sent the ball into the box. An MIT clearance attempt landed at the feet of first-year Dylan Marzouca (Kingston, Jamaica/Suffield Academy), and he blasted it into the wide-open net for his first collegiate goal.
  • The game-winning goal came 4:05 later off the head of first-year Kaden Collins (Farmington, Conn./Loomis Chaffee School). The Judges played the ball around the 18-yard box, with sophomore Aidan Chuang (New York, N.Y./Milton Acad.) leaving a ball for classmate Kenshin Murakawa (Osaka, Japan/Lexington (Mass.) down the right side. Murakawa one-timed a cross to the far post, where Collins charged in and headed home his first collegiate goal.
  • The Judges needed just under five more minutes to make it a three-goal lead. Chuang received a ball on the right side of the field and cut back to elude his defender. He laid the ball of for junior Nico Beninda (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township), who blasted it inside the near right post for his team-leading fourth goal of the campaign.
  • MIT spoiled the Judges' shutout bid in the 51st minute when Shikhar Motupally hit the upper left corner of the Brandeis net with a laser from 20 yards out at the top of the penalty arc.
  • Brandeis reestablished their three-goal lead in the 63rd minute, when Osselmann-Chai redirected a shot by Beninda over the keeper for his second of the campaign.
  • Brandeis finished with a 15-14 edge in shots, including 7-6 in shots of on goal.
  • Brandeis senior Quintin Wrabley (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) earned the win with six saves, while MIT's Hernando Ardilla suffered the loss with two stops.
  • The Judges improved to 36-26-4 in 66 all-time meetings, snapping a two-match skid, but improving to 7-2-1 in the last 10 against MIT.
  • This was the first meeting between the two sides in Waltham since 2019.
