UChicago Slams Gavel On Judges

Bookmark and Share

Friday kicked off the last regular season homestand for University of Chicago women's basketball and they started things off with an evening battle with Brandeis. The Maroons used a dominant middle portion of the contest and total team effort to easily cruise to a double-digit victory over the Judges inside the Ratner Athletic Center.

FINAL SCORE
Brandeis – 51
UChicago – 63

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • University of Chicago (16-7, 9-3 UAA) started off the contest on an 8-3 run before Brandeis University (5-18, 1-11 UAA) went on a small one of their own and eventually took a 10-8 lead. That advantage wouldn't last long though and the Maroons used a Sophia North three pointer to head into the second up by three.
  • The second and third frames were all UChicago, however. The Maroons scored 24 in the stanza before halftime while they added another 18 in the one immediately following it. Meanwhile, the defense did their job on the other end of the court and limited the Judges to just 12 points in each quarter.
  • The Maroons were afforded the advantage of resting their starters for most of the fourth period and got the bench some quality minutes before their big matchup on Sunday. The Judges had their best performing quarter in those final ten minutes but UChicago still held them at bay for the easy 12-point victory. Seniors Marissa Powe and North led the way with 11 points each while 11 Maroons found the scoresheet in total.
CHICAGO COMMENTS
  • "Tonight was a great way to kick off senior weekend. A total team effort with some really great basketball on both ends. Our defense has become our calling card and was no different tonight. We battled, rebounded, and made Brandeis work." – Head coach Maria Williamson.
