Top-Ranked NYU Ties Program Win Streak Record, Moves to 20-0 with Win at Emory
Make it 20 consecutive wins to start the season for New York University's top-ranked women's basketball team after defeating 12th-ranked Emory University, 82-46, on Sunday in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Violets are 20-0 and 9-0 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), winning each of their last five games by 25-or-more points and all of their last three by 30-plus.
Natalie Bruns shined in the win with game highs in each major statistical category: 23 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, five steals and three blocks.
Morgan Morrison also had a double-double with 19 points and 10 boards. Belle Pellecchia finished with 14 points and Megan Bauman added 13.
NYU was in control from the outset, holding the Eagles scoreless for the first 5:13 of the game and limiting them to 1-of-13 field-goal shooting and just two points in the opening period. The Violets led 21-2 after the first quarter, with Bauman, Bruns, Morrison and Pellecchia all scoring at least five points in the frame.
Emory won the second quarter 17-13, but NYU maintained a 15-point advantage (34-19) at the break while keeping the Eagles under 30 percent field-goal shooting during the first half.
Both offenses were clicking in the third quarter, but Emory couldn't keep pace as Pellecchia scored nine of her 14 points in the third and the Violets grew their lead to 25 (62-37) entering the fourth.
Caroline Peper scored all six of her points in the fourth as NYU's defense once again shut the door, limiting Emory to 2-of-11 shooting from the floor in the final frame to see out another convincing victory.
NYU's 20 straight wins have tied the program's longest streak of consecutive victories, which has been reached three other times. This is just the second time the Violets have won 20-in-a-row in a single season, the other coming in 1995-96.
