No. 12 UChicago Picks Up Big Three Points at Rochester
The 12th-ranked University of Chicago men's soccer team picked up its fourth consecutive decision and extended its unbeaten streak to 15 consecutive matches with a 2-0 victory at Rochester.
The first chance of the game for the Maroons came in the 29th minute on a Max Weene corner kick. Kai Walsh flicked on a header at the front post, and Louis Bock tapped the loose ball into the back of the net, but UChicago was called for a foul in the scramble to wipe the opening goal off the board.
The Yellowjackets had a great chance to strike in the 31st minute when Milos Bisenic ripped a free kick from outside the 18, forcing a sprawling save by the UChicago keeper, Ali Alamery.
UChicago found the go-ahead goal with just 47 seconds remaining in the opening half as Samuel Jimenez and David Schuster played a nice one-two on the right side before Jimenez found Max Weene in the box. Weene took one touch to get the ball on his left boot, and he ripped a screamer into the net at the far post to put the Maroons up 1-0.
Chase Perry earned a free kick in the 64th minute from 25 yards out, and Evan Kanellos was able to strike the ball well, but it fell right to the keeper for an easy save. Then, in the 71st minute, UChicago had another great chance as Jimenez slipped a ball in to Schuster, but the Yellowjacket keeper was up to the challenge to make the save.
The Maroons finally doubled their lead in the 77th minute when William Stewart earned a free kick in the short corner and Weene found the foot of Ricky Kai at the near post for the first goal of his collegiate career.
In goal, Ali Alamery made two saves en route to his eighth clean sheet of the season to help push the Maroons past the Yellowjackets.
