The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team, ranked 25th nationally, competed in the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #3. The Tartans opened the day competing against the host University of Chicago and dropped a 3-1 decision. The Cardinal and Gray then defeated NYU  3-0. The Tartans are now 20-7 for the year and 4-3 in the UAA.

Inside the Box Score vs. Chicago

  • The Tartans claimed the first set, 25-14, but the Maroons took the next three in a tight match up 25-23, 25-22, 26-24.
  • The Tartans hit .267 and the Maroons hit .132.
  • Senior Katherine Jackson led the team offensively, with 12 kills, followed by senior Julianna McFarland with nine kills and senior Elizabeth Schlemmer and classmate Bella Woodard with eight kills each.
  • Junior Kate Giang ended with six kills, which have her 1,000 for her career.
  • Freshman Melissa Jin led the Tartans with 25 assists while junior Neha Tummala tallied 15 assists.
  • Junior Zoe Gavros led the Tartans with 16 digs. Junior Kate Giang recorded 11 digs.
  • McFarland led at the net with six block assists and three block solos.

Inside the Box Score vs. NYU

  • The Tartans won by set scores of 25-10, 25-23, 25-20.
  • The Tartans hit .276 and the Bobcats hit .110.
  • Giang led the Tartans with 11 kills, followed by Jackson with none kills with Giang hitting .320 and Jackson .348.
  • Jin and sophomore Izzy Saffert each recorded two service aces for the Tartans.
  • Jin and Tummala led in assists for the Tartans with 17 and 14, respectively.
  • Giang led the Tartans with 12 digs, followed by Tummala with 10, and Jin with eight.
  • Senior Kai Herchenroether and McFarland led the Tartans with two solo blocks each. McFarland also tabbed three block assists

  • Giang now has 1,011 kills for her career with 293 coming this year as a Tartan and 718 coming at Wellesley.
