No. 4 WashU Shuts Out Greenville 4-0 On The Road
The No. 4 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team defeated Greenville 4-0 in its final non-conference game of the regular-season. The Bears improve to 11-0-1 on the year.
WashU got on the board in the 20
th minute as senior Grace Ehlert scored her team-leading 10
th goal of the season. Ehlert dribbled the ball around several defenders and fired a long shot into the left corner for a 1-0 lead.
The Bears struck again in the 34
th minute as sophomore Olivia Clemons sped past defenders starting at midfield, around the diving goalkeeper and sent the ball into the net for a 2-0 advantage.
With less than three minutes left in the first half, first-year Maya Stevenson controlled the rebound from a shot by first-year Heidi Fesler to score her first-career goal as a Bear to extend WashU's lead to 3-0.
The Bears scored their final goal of the game as Clemons scored again in the 67
th minute for her eighth goal of the year.
WashU recorded 20 shots with 11 on goal. Clemons recorded four shots with two on goal while both Ehlert and senior Kerrigan Ferland had two shots, both on goal.
Starting goalkeeper sophomore Suzie Green along with reserves junior Charlotte Shapiro and sophomore Heidi Schultz combined for the shutout against the Panthers. The WashU defense allowed just two shots all game, neither of which were on goal.
