No. 1 WashU Women's Soccer Clinches 2025 UAA Title With 3-1 Win Over No. 22 NYU
The No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team clinched the 2025 UAA title on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 win over No. 22 NYU at home. It is the 18
th title in program history and the Bears have won at least a partial share of the UAA title in nine of the last 10 years.
WashU is 16-0-1 as they head into the final weekend of the regular season. They close out the regular-season slate against No. 7 Chicago next Saturday at home at 6:30 p.m.
The Violets scored first in the 41
st minute as Carmen Cicerini chipped the ball in for a 1-0 game leading into halftime.
Ten minutes into the second half, the Bears pulled even as sophomore Kate Martin headed the ball in off a corner kick from junior Sophie Viscovich. It marks Martin's fourth goal of the year.
In the 62
nd minute, senior Grace Ehlert scored the go-ahead off a free kick from junior Keira Smyser. Ehlert now has 12 goals on the year for the Bears.
Sophomore Olivia Clemons scored her UAA-leading 15
th goal of the season in the 87
th minute, taking the ball off the goalkeeper's feet 20 yards out, dribbling up and knocking it in.
Statistically, WashU registered 13 shots to NYU's three, including an 8-2 edge in shots on goal. The Bears also had five corner kicks while the Violets had none.
Clemons had four shots with two on goal while Viscovich had three shots, all on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Kassidy Lanthier made one save on the day.
