Defense Limits Bears' Offense to Five Shots

The New York University men's soccer team defeated #2 nationally- ranked Washington University 1-0 on Saturday in St. Louis.

Terra Nagai scored the only goal of the University Athletic Association (UAA) match in the 20th minute off of an assist from Keyon Namdar. Namdar made a fantastic run past numerous Bears' defenders and laid it off to Nagai to finish.

NYU defended well throughout the first half, limiting WashU to only three shots, all on target.

Opening the second half, Kyle Sakalosky had a chance to make it 2-0 Violets, forcing a good save from the Bears' goalkeeper Cal L'Hommedieu.

Namdar also had a chance to make it two in the 73rd minute, but again forced a save from Washington's goalkeeper.

The Violets' defense only allowed two more shots in the second half, with neither landing on goal.

NYU took nine shots in the game, five of them on goal.

Gabino Talisayon recorded the three-save shutout for NYU.

"The players put in a phenomenal performance. They were really competing from the first minute to the last minute of the match," Head Coach Kim Wyant said. "I give them total credit for this team victory. They followed the game plan, they stayed together, and the performance was outstanding."
