TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis, 4-0.
  • Framingham State, 2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • FSU led for most of the first three quarters. Brandeis took a brief 7-6 lead midway through the first quarter on a 3-pointer by senior Abby Kennedy (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay), but the Rams answered with the next four points.
  • The hosts outscored Brandeis, 9-0, off points from turnovers in the first to take a 19-14 lead.
  • The Rams' lead expanded as large as 14 points in the second and they took a 43-33 advantage into the locker room.
  • Brandeis stayed as close as they did in the second thanks to a break-out period from sophomore transfer guard Jazzy Perez (Johns Creek, Ga./Centennial), who scored 13 of the team's 19 points. Perez hit 5-of-6 from the field, 2-of-3 from downtown and one free throw to score her career-high in just seven minutes of action.
  • An early 7-1 run in the third quarter got the Judges within striking distance at 44-41 on a Kennedy lay-up with 6:40 on the clock.
  • The Judges were able to stay within two possessions most of the rest of the quarter and went in to the fourth facing a 55-51 deficit.
  • Kennedy took over in the final 10 minutes. She opened the stanza with a 3-pointer, and after a couple of empty possessions, senior Maya Williams (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) had lay-up on a feed from Kennedy at the 8:04 mark, and the Judges never looked back.
  • Kennedy would go on to outscore Framingham State on her own, 12-9, as the Judges owned a 23-9 scoring margin. Brandeis shot 50 percent from the field (5-10) and 3-point range (2-4), while FSU hit just 17.6% overall (3-17) and 14.3% from deep (1-7).
  • The Judges also forced eight turnovers in the fourth while committing just four for a 13-3 scoring margin in points off those miscues.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Kennedy finished with a game-high 26 points, her third-straight game over 20 points. She hit 7-for-25 from the field, 4-for-13 from 3-point range and 8-for-8 from the line.
