CWRU Wins Big over Thiel, 91-50
The Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team posted a season-high point total on Saturday afternoon at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland in a 91-50 victory over Thiel College.
The Spartans improved to 4-1 overall with the win, while the Tomcats dropped to 2-3 following the setback.

CWRU had its best shooting day of the season on Saturday, finishing the contest with a 43.8% (32-73) from the floor and 36.1% (13-36) from three-point range. The Spartans outrebounded the Tomcats 49-37 and forced 23 turnovers while committing just 15.

Sophomore guard/forward Lauren Ludwig came off the bench to lead all Spartans with 18 points in the game, shooting six-of-seven overall and making all four of her three-point attempts.

Senior guard/forward Emily Plachta added 14 points, seven rebounds, two assists, three steals, and two blocks.

Junior forward Maura Schorr filled up the box score with 13 points, eight rebounds, two assists, three steals, and three blocks.

Junior guard Mya Hartjes finished with 12 points and dished out a career-high nine assists, just one shy of the program's single-game record.

Junior guard Jordyn Call was also in double-figures for the Spartans on Saturday, scoring 13 in the game.
First Period

Call gave the Spartans a 6-4 lead with a three-pointer with 7:46 left in the first period, and CWRU would not trail again for the remainder of the game.

Call's three started a 14-0 run for CWRU that allowed the squad to grab a 17-4 advantage on a layup by Schorr with 2:45 left in the frame.

CWRU ended the period with a 12-point lead, carrying a 19-7 edge into the second quarter.
Second Period

Hartjes connected on a layup with 5:29 left in the second to push the team's lead to 20 points, 30-10, for the first time.

The Spartans' lead ballooned to as many as 26 points in the period following a free throw from first-year guard Abby Sirois with 49 seconds in the period, and CWRU took a 42-22 lead into halftime.

Ludwig scored eight points during the second, making all three of her shot attempts during the period, including a pair of threes.
Third Period

Schorr connected on a three-pointer and Plachta followed with a fastbreak layup on the team's next possession to give CWRU a 56-25 advantage with 8:07 left in the third.

A 10-0 run over a two-minute, six-second stretch, capped off by a layup from first-year Christen Banks with 4:12 on the clock, put the Spartans ahead 70-28.

The Spartans took a game-high 47-point lead, 77-30, with 1:27 left in the third and ended the period ahead 78-34.

Ludwig scored 10 points in the third period, Call added eight during the frame, and Hartjes assisted on six baskets over the third stanza.
Fourth Period

The Spartans' lead climbed back to 47 following baskets on back-to-back possessions from sophomore guard Mila Rossini for four of her team-leading nine points during the period.

CWRU led by at least 38 points the rest of the way, en route to the 41-point win.

The Spartans improved to 7-4 all-time against Thiel. Saturday's game was the first meeting between the two teams since CWRU bested the Tomcats 71-59 during the 2018-19 campaign.

Ludwig's 18 points surpassed her previous career high of 14, set last season against Pitt.-Greensburg.
