The University of Rochester women's basketball team raced out to a big first quarter lead and cruised to an 83-52 win over visiting William Smith College on Tuesday evening at the Louis Alexander Palestra.
Rochester's victory was the Yellowjackets third straight in the last five days, leveling their record at 3-3 on the season. William Smith remains winless at 0-4 so far in 2025-26.
After the opening ten minutes, URochester led 31-15, nearly doubling up the Herons.
A 3-pointer by Giana Lobozzo gave William Smith a 7-4 lead, but the 'Jackets followed by scoring the next ten points, emphasized by a Grace Corelli 3-pointer to lead 14-7.
Later in the quarter, William Smith still trailed by seven, but Rochester ended the period strong, scoring the last nine points to grab the 16-point lead. A triple from Annelise Dexter started the run, with two layups by Deniz Alparslan following before Franki Gomez ended the quarter with a bucket in the paint.
M. Alparslan had 5 rebounds and 5 assists.
The run extended to 17 straight points for the Yellowjackets after the hosts scored the first eight points of the second period. Peyton Jones and Corelli both hit 3-pointers, with a Macy Bacon jumper making the score 39-15 just two minutes into the quarter.
After outscoring William Smith 18-10 in the second, Rochester held a 24-point cushion at the halftime intermission.
The two teams both scored 16 points in the third, with the Yellowjackets finishing off the victory, outscoring the Herons by seven in the final period.
URochester's win over William Smith was the sixth straight in the all-time series between the schools, with the Yellowjackets scoring at least 80 points in each of those six contests. UR leads 45-13 in 58 all-time matchups with William Smith.
Dexter finished as Rochester's leading scorer on the night with 13 points, while also adding 4 rebounds 2 steals and 2 blocks. A trio of players, Corelli, Bacon and D. Alparslan finished with 11 points.
Gomez, Bacon, Melis Alplarslan and Hazell Nickerson each led the Yellowjackets with five rebounds, while M. Alparslan and Claire Groenewoud handed out five assists each.
Overall, Rochester had 24 helpers on 34 made baskets and held a big rebound advantage, grabbing 55 boards to William Smith's 32. UR made a season-high 11 3-pointers in the victory, finishing at 42% (11-26) from distance on the night.
