NYU Wins Season Opener, Runs Win Streak to 63
The New York University women's basketball team, the back-to-back defending NCAA Division III National Champions, kicked off its 2025-26 season with a resounding 108-49 win over Swarthmore College at the Brandeis Invitational on Friday.
The preseason #1-ranked Violets
breezed to their 63rd consecutive victory in overwhelming fashion.
NYU scored the first 13 points of the game and led 29-18 after the first quarter.
The lead grew to as many as 29 points before the Violets doubled Swarthmore 54-27 at halftime.
By the end of the third quarter, the NYU advantage grew to 85-38.
The 108 points were the most scored by NYU in a season-opener in program history.
"It felt great to get back on the court with our crew," said Head Coach Meg Barber. "They represented the sisterhood well with relentless defensive effort and selfless play on the offensive side of the ball."
Senior Caroline Peper led the balanced scoring attack with 19 points. She was followed by Brooke Batchelor (14) and Zahra Alexander (13), while both Eden Williamson and Megan Ohonde had 10.
Ohonde led the way with nine rebounds, and eight players recorded at least two assists.
The Violets compiled 25 steals, with Batchelor pilfering a game-high six.
NYU forced 46 turnovers.
