Last-Minute Goal by Justin Fung Gives Tartans 1-0 Victory over CWRU

The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team hosted Case Western Reserve University for the last University Athletic Association (UAA) contest of the season on Saturday.  After a long battle, the Tartans won by a 1-0 score with a last-minute goal, making their overall record 9-4-5 and 2-3-2 in conference while Case Western Reserve falls to 7-5-5 and 1-4-2.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Tartans took five shots in the first period, with two being saved by Case Western Reserve's Bradley Winter.
  • Junior Kai Yamamoto had one save in the first period.
  • The Tartans took three shots over a two-minute span to open the second period, one being saved by Bradley Winter and the other two going out left.
  • Case Western Reserve took seven shots, two of these shots being saved by Yamamoto ahead of the Tartans goal.
  • Junior Justin Fung scored the game winner in the 90th minute. Freshman Buck Magee sent a ball down the right side for freshman Idan Garten who got around the keeper charging out to the side of the 18-yard box. Garten played the ball into the middle of the box where Fung chipped it over the defense for the score.
