NYU Posts 72nd Consecutive Win; Violets Defeat SUNY Oneonta at Montreal Shootout

New York University's top-ranked women's basketball team posted its 72nd-consecutive victory, defeating SUNY Oneonta 89-37 at the Montreal Shootout on Tuesday in Montreal, Canada.

The Violets (10-0) scored the first nine points of the game, removing any concern about the winning streak coming to an end.

NYU led SUNY Oneonta (5-3) 21-4 after the first quarter, as the Violets forced seven turnovers and held the Red Dragons to 16.7 percent (2-of-12) shooting from the field over the first 10 minutes. 

SUNY Oneonta did not score in the second quarter until there was only 3:20 remaining, with the Violets taking a 44-11 lead at the halftime break.

NYU's lead increased to 62-24 after the third quarter and reached a game-high 52 points, 84-32, following Olive Batch's three-pointer with 2:44 remaining.

Aila Kaibara and Olivia Lagao led a balanced NYU scoring attack with 14 points each.

Megan Ohonde added 13 points, Batch finished with nine and Caitlin Kenney had eight.

Yasmene Clark grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, with Ohonde adding eight.

Kaibara totaled a team-high four assists, while Caroline Peper and Eden Williamson led the way with four steals each. 

NYU's winning streak is the fifth-longest in NCAA women's basketball history at any level. The Violets are one victory behind Division II Ashland University, which currently possesses the fourth-longest streak at 73.
