How It Happened

  • Senior Savannah Gibbs scored the first points of the game off a tip in from senior Nicole Timko's three-point shot in the first thirty seconds of the game.
  • After the two teams kept scoring back and forth, La Roche took the lead with a three-pointer by Catherine Kelly at the 6:30 mark for a score of 10-7.
  • The La Roche lead expanded to 10 points at the beginning of the second quarter after a jump shot by La Roche's Addison Odille which made the score 24-14.
  • The Tartans then went on a 9-0 run starting with a three-pointer by Timko and ending with a layup by Gibbs that made the score 24-23 with three minutes left in the first half.
  • A bucket by the Redhawks Nautica Burwell in the closing seconds of the half gave the home team a 29-26 at the break.
  • The third quarter saw La Roche maintain its lead for the first eight minutes until freshman Nisha Musunuri stole the ball and made a layup and converted the and-one to take a 41-40 advantage.
  • Less than thirty seconds later, Gibbs made it a 10-0 run for the Tartans on a layup that gave Carnegie Mellon a 43-40 lead, but a triple by Burwell before the end of the quarter knotted the score at 43-all heading into the final frame.
  • The Tartans started the fourth quarter on a 10-2 run which extended the run to 20-5 from the third quarter and never looked back.
  • On two different occasions, Carnegie Mellon led by as many as 13 points before going on for the 66-55 victory.
