The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team hosted Alvernia University for the first meeting between the two schools on Saturday. The Tartans shot 45.0% from the floor on their way to a 74-44 victory to move to 4-3 for the season.

How it Happened

  • Senior Nicole Timko started things by making the first shot attempt of the game, a three-pointer just 10 seconds after the tip.
  • More than six minutes later, the Tartans led 15-5 following a layup and free throw by freshman Shelby Lewis that made the score 15-5.
  • By the end of the first quarter, the Tartans were ahead 17-9 with five different players contributing to the scoring.
  • The lead for the Tartans grew to 10 by the media timeout at 4:53 of the second quarter.
  • Lewis, who had five points in the first quarter, closed the second with four points to tie senior Savannah Gibbs with the team lead at the break with nine points.
  • The Tartans led, 35-17, after pushing Alvernia into 14 first-half turnovers and scoring 15 points off those turnovers.
  • Lewis and sophomore Anya Peper led the Tartans in the third quarter, as they scored six and five points respectively, to push the team's advantage 23 points going into the final ten minutes.
  • The final period was the strongest for the Tartans, as they hit 56.3% from the floor, assisted on six of nine baskets, and only committed three turnovers.

  • Lewis led with a career-best 18 points.
  • Timko recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. She also had five steals to match her career best from earlier this season at Oberlin.
