TEAM RECORDS

  • Bridgewater State, 2-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • BSU took less than a minute to open the scoring. The Bears took a throw-in from the right sideline and found the feet of Hector Buccio. Buccio split two defenders to find himself one-on-one vs the Brandeis keeper, beating him to the left side for a goal just 46 seconds into the contest.
  • The Bears ended up outshooting Brandeis, 6-5, in the first half, but Judge senior Tyler Correnti (W. Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional) made two saves after allowing the goal to keep the deficit at one.
  • Brandeis answered and took the lead in a span of three minutes in the second half.
  • In the 58th minute, Brandeis earned a free kick about 25 yards from goal. Senior Rainer Osselmann-Chai (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough Regional) chipped a ball over the BSU defense, and sophomore Kaden Collins (Farmington, Conn./Loomis Chaffee School) got his head on the other end, floating a ball over the outstretched hand of the keeper.
  • The goal was Collins's first of the season and the third of his career.
  • The game-winner came in the 61st minute. Sophomore Junyeop Lee (Seoul, South Korea Northwood School (N.Y.) fed junior Juan Vera (Caracas, Venezuela Cypress Bay (Fla.) in the middle of the field. Vera spun and touched the ball forward to senior Nico Beninda (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) who dribbled to the top of the 18-yard box and unleashed a shot inside the left post.
  • Beninda's goal was his second of the season, both of which have been game-winners. It was the 10th goal of his career, and third game-winner.
  • Brandeis's defense kept Bridgewater State at bay in the second period, outshooting the Bears 8-2, including 4-0 in shots on goal, to finish with a 13-8 overall advantage for the game.
  • Correnti finished with two saves to earn the win, while BSU's Kyle Sullivan had three stops.
  • The last time the Judges started 4-0, in 2014, they won their first 11 games.
  • Brandeis has won seven straight matches dating back to last season.
