No. 1 WashU Routs Illinois Wesleyan 6-0
The No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team beat Illinois Wesleyan 6-0 on the road on Tuesday evening. The Bears are now 2-0 on the year.
WashU wasted no time getting on the board, scoring 1:26 in. Sophomore Kate Martin netted her first goal of the season on a pass from junior Keira Smyser for the 1-0 game.
The Bears doubled their lead in the 15
th minute when sophomore Cami Colpitts scored her first goal of the year on a pass from sophomore Olivia Clemons.
Junior Sophie Viscovich extended WashU's lead to 3-0, scoring on a pass from senior Ella Koleno in the 27
th minute. Less than two minutes later, senior Grace Ehlert put the Bears up 4-0.
In the first half, starting goalkeeper sophomore Suzie Green recorded a save on IWU's Liza Wiley's ball.
Just 2:58 into the second half, Ehlert scored her second goal of the game and third of the season on a pass from Smyser for a 5-0 lead.
Junior goalkeeper Charlotte Shapiro made a save in the 80
th minute on another Wiley shot.
Clemons scored her third goal of the season in the 61
st minute on a pass from first-year Heidi Fesler.
The Bears recorded 41 shots including 19 on goal to IWU's seven shots and two on goal. WashU registered seven corner kicks to IWU's one.
