Ninety minutes was not enough time for either team to find the back of the net, as the University of Rochester and St. Lawrence University battled to a 0-0 draw in women's soccer action on Wednesday evening at Edwin Fauver Stadium.

After a sluggish first half, Rochester (1-0-1) controlled most of the play in the second period, leading to an overall 15-7 advantage in shots during the game. Four of UR's attempts were on goal, compared to just two for the Saints (0-1-2), but both teams were able to keep their opponents off the scoreboard.

Late in the first half, URochester's Sydney Holmes nearly provided the opening goal of the contest off a solid flick header at the edge of the crease off a terrific long cross from teammate Remi Cherkas. The shot sailed just wide left of the cage.

Less than a minute later, first-year Delia McMullen also had a good look for the 'Jackets, but her one-timer shot from eight yards off a pass from Holmes slipped wide left of the post.

At intermission, the visiting Saints held the lead in shots, seven to four.

During the 56th minute, Natalie Santangelo had another near-miss opportunity for the Yellowjackets. After a cross from the left sideline, the sophomore forward one-timed a left footed shot from 12 yards that beat the SLU keeper but trickled just wide right of the net.

With 30 minutes left on the clock, Rochester earned a corner and took a short pass in along the right wing. Maya Bravo swung a service into the box for Femke Laudy who headed her shot towards the left post, only to have it saved away by a well-positioned defender. St. Lawrence's Sofia Manne was the player to make the save and keep the game scoreless.

Later on, Laudy was again denied a goal, this time by the Saints keeper in Zoe Davenport who made a terrific diving save into the right post. A cross from Holmes was sent into the center of the box where Laude was waiting. The UR first-year launched her header towards the corner of the goal, but was denied by the Saints keeper.

URochester kept applying pressure offensively over the remaining ten minutes, leading to three shots and a pair of corners, but nothing came of those chances and the game ended up with a 0-0 final score.

Overall in the second half, the Yellowjackets took 11 shots, to zero for the visiting Saints. UR also earned five of its six corners in the final 45 minutes, with SLU not earning a single corner kick attempt in the game. For Rochester, goalie Sydney Moore made two saves, while Davenport finished with three stops for the Saints.
