NYU Draws Arcadia in Sunday Matinee
The #17-ranked New York University women's soccer team closed out its second weekend of action on Sunday afternoon, playing its final match of the TCNJ Classic against Arcadia University.
NYU battled to a scoreless draw with the Knights. The Violets previously scored a Saturday victory over the tournament hosts, the #20-ranked Lions from The College of New Jersey.
The Knights led the way in the first 45 minutes in possession and dangerous chances. NYU keeper Mia Capo registered four saves in the first half, backing up her back line to keep Arcadia off the score sheet.
Despite the scoring chances by the opposition, the Violets remained opportunistic on offense. NYU led the way with seven shots and six corners in the first half, with the majority coming in the final 15 minutes. The Violets found momentum and sustained possession in the last stretch of the half, but neither team came away with a goal.
The Violets opened the second half with a spark, challenging the Arcadia defenders with three chances in the first ten minutes.
Their best chance of the match was in the 73rd minute. Sonia Neighbors took a push to the back in the 18-yard box by Arcadia's Shelby Neighbors. NYU's Sari Frankl stepped up to the spot for the penalty shot, but her delivery connected with the left post and out.
NYU earned a final chance in the last minute of regulation with a corner kick from the left side. Arcadia was able to dispatch the Violets' final opportunity and run out the clock and the two sides played to a scoreless draw.
The Violets continue their road swing on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Stevens in Hoboken, NJ.
