The Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team played its third team in as many games with "Blue" in their mascot when they traveled to Illinois College on Sunday afternoon. A late goal lifted the Bears to a 2-1 win over the Big Blue as WashU improved to 3-1 on the season.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half, with WashU taking 14 shots while limiting IC to just three. The Bears also forced the pace of play with four corner kicks in the first 45 minutes while IC took just one.

However, it did not take long into the second half before junior Quentin Gomez took a pass from first-year Sebastian Valdes and fired a goal past the Big Blue goalkeeper in the 50th minute to give WashU the 1-0 lead.

IC responded just six minutes later in the 56th minute, leveling the match at 1-1 on a penalty kick.

Not wanting to leave without a win, the Bears got the game-winning goal late in the 80th minute when senior Tyler Allred found junior Colin Link in the box, who knocked the ball into the back of the net for the 2-1 lead.

The Big Blue fired three shots in just over the final five minutes, but junior Cal L'Hommedieu made saves on all three to preserve the WashU lead and the win.

For the full 90 minutes, the Bears outshot IC 26-9, including 11-6 in shots on goal. WashU also took nine corner kicks to IC's three.

L'Hommedieu played all 90 minutes in goal, making five saves and picking up his third win of the season.
