Violets Defeat Brandeis in UAA Opener For 74th Consecutive Win
The New York University women's basketball team won its 74th-straight game, defeating Brandeis University 79-49 on Saturday in Waltham, Massachusetts.
Playing its University Athletic Association (UAA) opener, the Violets began the game on a 9-0 run and never lost the lead.
NYU broke its tie with NCAA Division II Ashland University for the fourth-longest winning streak in NCAA women's basketball history at any level.
Only NCAA Division I UConn (111, 90) and Division III Washington University in St. Louis (81) have produced longer streaks.
NYU took its first double-digit lead at 16-5 and expanded it to 27-11 after the first quarter.
The Violets increased their advantage to 22 points at 37-15 before settling for a 44-29 halftime lead, their slimmest of the season.
NYU got right back on track to begin the second half, starting with a 14-0 run and taking a 29-point lead.
After the Judges responded by scoring the next six points, Caroline Peper countered with three straight three-pointers as NYU built a 32-point lead, 67-35.
The Violets went on to lead 67-39 after the third quarter, and the advantage grew to as many as 36 points in the fourth..
Peper finished with 37 points, tying the NYU program record with 11 three-pointers. She went 11-of-22 from long distance and added a team-high three steals.
Brooke Batchelor scored 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field, adding a game-high eight rebounds.
Yasmene Clark and Eden Williamson each grabbed seven rebounds, with Aila Kaibara dishing out a game-high six assists.
