No. 21 UChicago Earns Shutout Win Over No. 22 NYU
The 21st-ranked University of Chicago women's soccer team opened UAA conference play with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the 22nd-ranked New York University on Saturday night.
After a scoreless first half, UChicago broke through in the 57th minute when Annabel Edwards found the back of the net off a clean cross from Indira Naylor for the eventual game-winning goal.
The Maroons controlled the opening half, recording four shots and three corner kicks while holding the Violets to just two shots. UChicago's defense held strong, limiting possession time for NYU as well. Heading into the half, no team held an advantage.
The Maroons kept pouring on the aggression in the opening minutes of the second half. Nola Sherrod and Ella Cho took great looks but still struggled to find the back of the net for the Maroons. As they continued to push forward, less than a minute after Cho's close shot, Edwards broke through to nail the game-winner for the Maroons.
The Maroons and the Violets both finished with nine shots apiece, as Amanda Kayari recorded two saves in goal.
With the win, UChicago improves to 8-1 overall and 1-0 in UAA play.
