The sixth-ranked University of Chicago men's basketball team used a strong first-half effort to defeat Case Western Reserve University 93–74 on Friday night at the Gerald Ratner Athletics Center. Shane Regan led the way for the Maroons, leading all teams with 29 points, seven assists, and four rebounds.

After trailing 21-17 midway through the first half, LJ Moore came into the game off the bench to flip the momentum to the Maroons. The sophomore subbed in, and, within three minutes scored eight points, including back-to-back three pointers to put UChicago up by two with seven minutes left in the first half. From then on, the lead never wavered back to the Spartans' side. Moore's offense sparked a 20-6 run to close out the first half, as Eamonn Kenah buried a three-pointer from Regan in the final seconds.

Case Western trimmed the deficit to 11 early in the second half, but the Maroons responded each time. Nick Roper found his way to the basket in transition and from the paint to steady the offense, while Regan converted at the free-throw line and knocked down a three to push the margin back past 15. A string of free throws midway through the half extended the lead beyond 20 and put the game out of reach as a few minutes later Joe Berry converted of a steal for a fast-break layup and give UChicago their biggest lead of the day at 25.

In addition to Regan's 29 points, Roper added 23 points and eight rebounds, Kenah finished with 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 from three, and Moore chipped in 10 points off the bench.
