Violets Defeat Emory on Sunday to Run Winning Streak to 84
The top-ranked New York University women's basketball team stretched its winning streak to 84 games with its 78-60 victory over #23 Emory University on Sunday in Atlanta.
The University Athletic Association (UAA) match-up was tight throughout the first half.
The Violets led by only three, 32-29, late in the second quarter, but scored the next four points to take a 36-29 halftime advantage.
Emory pulled within 46-43 with three minutes left in the third quarter, but NYU countered with an 11-0 run and led by double-digits the rest of the way.
The Violets increased their lead to as many as 21 points in the final quarter.
Zahra Alexander scored a career-high 24 points for NYU, connecting on 8-of 14 from the field, and Caroline Peper added 17 points.
Yasmene Clark contributed a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds, while Brooke Batchelor finished with a near-double-double of nine points and 10 rebounds.
With the victory, NYU has clinched at least a tie for the UAA Championship, and can win it outright in their next game.
