Tartans Top Eagles; Celebrate Seniors
The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team rebounded from a Friday evening loss to defeat visiting Emory University, 69-57, on Sunday to move to 14-9 for the season and 6-6 in the University Athletic Association (UAA). The Eagles move to 14-9 and 4-8.
How it Happened
- The Eagles ran out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter and led 22-17 at the first break thanks to 60% shooting from the floor.
- The Tartans, who shot 31.6% in the first quarter, turned the tables and made 11-of-15 from the floor including 3-of-3 from long range to 44-32 lead at half.
- The Tartans first lead of the game came on a second-chance bucket by freshman Shelby Lewis three minutes into the second quarter that made the score 25-24.
- Junior Allie Heyer's third trey of the quarter put the Tartans up 12, 40-28, with 3:17 to go in the frame. Heyer led the Tartans with 16 points in the half.
- The Tartans kept the double-digit lead in the third for all but 41 seconds, building their lead to 19 points three different times with the first coming on a jumper by freshman Niyati Bangalore with three minutes on the clock.
- Tight defense by the Tartans held the Eagles to 20% shooting from the floor in the third as they withstood five turnovers and shot 42.9% on their way to a 16-point lead going into the final quarter.
- The Eagles got as close as seven points but it was with less than a minute to play and the Tartans closed the final minute with three free throws by Heyer and a last second shot in the paint by senior Liv LaFond for the 69-57 win.

- Heyer finished with a career-high 21 points.
- Sophomore Payton Baney scored 11 points while freshman Aleena Dinker had 10 points.
- Senior Nicole Timko led with six rebounds and three assists while Bangalore had a season-high tying four assists.
Eagle Stats
- Tatum Olson finished with 27 points after scoring 17 points in the first quarter. She also had eight rebounds.
- Alexandra Loucopoulos collected 14 points and seven rebounds.
