  • Graduate student designated hitter Eli Westrick was three-for-four at the plate with a double, a run, and an RBI.

  • First-year second baseman James O'Connor was two-for-five with a double, two runs, and an RBI.

Highlights & Scoring Recap

  • The Spartans jumped out to an early lead in the game with a pair of runs in the first inning. O'Connor led the game off with a single and moved to second on a one-out base hit by junior first baseman Tyler Stillson. After both runners advanced on a groundout, Pool plated both with a two-out single, putting the Spartans in front 2-0.

  • Westrick opened the third inning with a double down the right field line and came around to score on a groundout by Pool, extending the CWRU lead to 3-0.

  • The Spartans added on two more runs with two outs in the fourth, going ahead 5-0 after a run-scoring double from O'Connor and an RBI base hit up the middle from Westrick.

  • Mitchell scored a run in the fourth inning against Griffith, but that would be the only run he would allow in his outing, leaving the game after four and a third with a 5-1 lead.

  • CWRU remained ahead by four until the ninth, when the Mariners scored a run and brought the tying run to the plate, but sophomore Ayush Shetty notched a strikeout to end the game and record his first save of the season.
