The New York University men's tennis team defeated The College of New Jersey 4-3 on Saturday in Ewing.
In doubles play, the Violets secured one victory, as the No. 3 duo of Louis Frowein and Boris Slesarev earned a 7–5 win.
NYU rallied in singles to claim the match, earning four victories in tightly contested contests that all required match tiebreakers.
At No. 1 singles, Niklas von Hellens rebounded after dropping the first set to win 1–6, 6–2, 10–6. Bryan Hui followed with a comeback victory at No. 2 singles, winning 4–6, 6–3, 10–4. Shido Ito added another point at No. 4 singles with a 3–6, 6–2, 10–5 victory. Cooper Kline secured the final singles win for the Violets at No. 6, rallying for a 4–6, 6–4, 10–4 triumph.
"This could not have been closer with seven of the nine matches decided by tiebreakers," said Assistant Coach Ron Moreno. "We won the right points when we had to. Nik, Bryan, Shido, and Cooper all dropped the first set but showed resilience coming back to win the second and force match tiebreakers. We won four of the six to secure the win. It was 3–3 and Cooper stepped up when we needed him most. It was a great team win."
