Violets Score 16 Runs to Earn First Win in Florida

The New York University baseball team (2-4) defeated Russell Sage (6-3) 16-2 on Sunday, March 15, in Auburndale, Florida. The Violets got back in the win column after dropping two games to the Gators yesterday.

It was a stellar day for the Violets as they scored a season-high 16 runs in just seven innings, and allowed a season-low two runs.

Max Oliveira opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with an RBI single.

Matt Dahl's single with the bases loaded was the highlight of a four-run inning by the Violets and gave them a 6-0 lead.

The Gators earned a run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Violets extended their lead to 15 after exploding for 10 runs in the sixth. Dahl hit two singles in the sixth to add four more RBIs to his stat line. Six different Violets had RBI's in the sixth inning.

The Gators scored a run in the seventh, but the run rule ended the game after seven as the Violets walked away with their first win of the three-game series.

Notable Stats:

  • Dahl's six RBI's set a single-game career high

  • The 10 runs scored in the sixth are the most runs scored in a single inning this season for the Violets

  • NYU's bullpen only allowed six Gator hits

  • Ansel Balmer picked up his first win of the season

  • Harrison Blueweiss has had at least 1 RBI in four straight games

Next Up:

The Violets will take the field Thursday, March 19, against Elmhurst University at 4:30pm. NYU has four more games in Florida before the Violets return to New York for their first UAA match-up.
