UChicago Sweeps Banana Slugs
The second-ranked University of Chicago men's tennis team delivered a dominant sweep over UC Santa Cruz on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Maroons improve to 8–2 on the season.
UChicago opened the match by securing the doubles point with commanding wins on all three courts. Jack Wong and Robert Zhang set the tone with a 6–0 sweep at #2 doubles. Emil Grantcharov and Heyang Li followed with another 6–0 result at the #3 position to clinch the doubles point. Albert Mackey and Shrikeshav Murugesan completed the doubles sweep with a 6–2 win at the #1 spot.
The Maroons carried their momentum into singles play, winning every match in straight sets. Grantcharov led the lineup at #1 singles with a 6–3, 6–2 victory over his Banana Slug opponent. Ajer Sher added another point at #2 singles with a 6–4, 6–0 win.
Michael Choi continued UChicago's strong showing with a 6–2, 6–1 victory at the #3 spot, while Christian Liew controlled his match at #4 singles with a 6–1, 6–0 result.
Kane Kelley secured a 6–4, 6–4 win at the #5 position, and John Walentowicz capped the afternoon with a 6–2, 6–0 victory at #6 to complete the Maroons' sweep.
