Brandeis Wins Home Opener, 4-1, over Holy Cross

In its first home match of the season, the Brandeis University men's tennis team defeated Division I Holy Cross, 4-1, in the Gosman Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In their second-straight match against a Division I opponent, the Judges outlasted the Crusaders to win the doubles point.
- After sophomore Daniel Shemesh (Modiin, Israel / Ironi Hei School Modiin) and first-year Oliver Lorenz (Albuquerque, N.M. / Rafa Nadal Academy) rolled to a 6-1 victory at #1, Holy Cross's Colton Parker and Aayush Jhaveri won, 6-4 at #3.
- Brandeis clinched the point with a marathon at #2, as junior Pierce Garbett (Coral Gables, Fla. / Gulliver Prep) and sophomore Aidan Wang-Fan (Richmond Hill, Ont. / Bill Crothers Secondary School) defeated their opponents 7-6, and 12-10 in the tiebreaker.
- In singles action, the first round of matches all went three sets, with the player dropping the first set bouncing back to win the next two.
- Holy Cross's Teddy Callery won, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, at #3 to tie the match at 1-all.
- Garbett pulled the feat at #2, winning 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
- Shemesh had a chance to sweep at #1, going to a tiebreaker in the opening set, but prevailed, 6-7 (1-7), 6-2, 7-5.
- The second round of matches were clinched at #5, when Lorenz earned a 7-5, 6-1, victory.
