No. 17 Tartans Open Florida Slate With 4-3 Win Over No. 23 Mary Washington
The Carnegie Mellon men's tennis team, ranked 17th, opened its Florida trip with a 4-3 win over 23rd-ranked University of Mary Washington on Wednesday morning. The Tartans improve to 6-0 on the season while the Eagles are now 7-1.
Inside the Results
- Mary Washington won the team doubles point with wins at two and three doubles. The Tartans to tandem of graduate student Diogo Tinoco and sophomore Brendan Hendrata claimed a 7-6 (2) win.
- The Eagles extended the lead to 2-0 with a win a one singles before Carnegie Mellon won four straight points in singles play to record its sixth victory of the season.
- Sophomore Takeshi Koey won at the fourth spot by the scores of 6-2, 6-4 and then freshman Ian Miller went 6-3, 6-2 in six singles to tie the score.
- Tinoco put the Tartans ahead 3-2 with his 7-6 (4), 6-1 win at two singles and then junior Raghav Jangbahadur clinched the team win with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory at three singles.
