The Carnegie Mellon University's softball team advanced to 7-1 with another pair of victories in Florida on Friday. The Tartans won the first game against Adrian College, 12-4, and the second game against Clark University, 1-0.

Game against Adrian

  • The Tartans collected seven runs off seven hits in the top of the first inning with sophomore Reagan Diamond and freshman Sophia Doherty collecting an RBI each and freshman Aubrey Feldman singling in two runs with two outs.
  • Adrian scored one run in the bottom of the first after a sacrifice fly.
  • The Bulldogs then scored three runs in the bottom of the second while the Tartans were quiet for the second and third innings.
  • In the top of the fourth inning, Doherty and sophomore Gabrielle Yamoah scored off junior Maddy Beall's triple, followed immediately by Beall scoring off freshman Kiera Thomas' pop up for a score of 10-4.
  • Runs were added by the Tartans in the sixth and seventh innings with junior Maya Bala and Diamond earning RBIs off sacrifice flies.
  • Thomas replaced senior Haley Pucci in the first inning and earned her third win of the season by scattering six hits, allowing three runs, and striking out five batters.

Game against Clark

  • Sophomore Gianna Adams went the distance in the circle, scattering four hits while striking out seven batters to move her record to 3-1 for the season.
  • Adams stranded two runners in the top of the second inning and the Tartans promptly took the lead when Feldman singled to left field to plate freshman Riya Sharda from second base after she singled and stole second.
  • Adams again stranded two runners in the third and left the bases loaded in the fourth when she got the last out on a grounder to second.
  • After retiring the side in the fifth and the sixth, Clark threatened again in the seventh.
  • With one out, Adams gave up a walk and a single that moved the runner to third. Under pressure to keep the lead, Adams caught the next batter looking and recorded the final out with a strikeout to seal the win.
