Judges Get Past Skidmore, 5-2

The 29th-ranked Brandeis University men's tennis team earned a hard-fought victory on the road Friday afternoon, defeating #35 Skidmore College 5-2 at the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Judges set a strong tone by securing the doubles point with victories in two of the three flights. At the top spot, the sophomore-first-year duo of Daniel Shemesh (Modiin, Israel / Ironi Hei School Modiin) and Oliver Lorenz (Albuquerque, N.M. / Rafa Nadal Academy) earned a 6-4 win.
- The doubles point was clinched at the #2 position, where junior Pierce Garbett (Coral Gables, Fla. / Gulliver Prep) and sophomore Aidan Wang-Fan (Richmond Hill, Ont. / Bill Crothers Secondary School) outlasted their opponents 7-5.
- Skidmore earned their lone doubles win at the #3 flight, 6-4.
- In singles play, Brandeis secured the victory by winning four of the six matches, three of which went to three sets.
- Shemesh provided a tight straight-set win at #1 singles, edging out his opponent in a pair of tight tiebreaker sets, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (tiebreaker score unavailable).
- At #2, Garbett bounced back from a set down to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
- First-year Muaz Malik (Dubai, UAE / Laurel Springs School) also prevailed in a three-set battle at the #3 spot, winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
- Lorenz capped off the scoring for the Judges with a marathon victory at #6 singles, surviving 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.
- The Thoroughbreds earned their two points at the #4 and #5 singles positions. At #4, Wang-Fan fell in two competitive sets, 7-5, 6-3.
- Junior Huasen Dong (Richmond Hill, Ont. / Richmond Green Second School) dropped a tough three-set match at #5, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.
