No. 1 UChicago Earns Sixth Sweep of the Year
The top-ranked University of Chicago men's tennis team earned a 7-0 sweep over the 34th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks. The win continues the Maroons' dominant dual-match season record at 15-3.
UChicago cruised through doubles to take the early 1-0 lead. At #3 doubles,
Christian Liew and Heyang Li recorded the first win of the day, taking down their Warhawk opponents 6-4. In the same fashion, the brother duo of Alexander Ekstrand and Markus Ekstrand secured the doubles point, winning their match 6-4. Closing out the doubles portion of the match, Robert Zhang and Jack Wong dominated for the 6-3 win at the #2 spot.
In singles play, the Maroons maintained their momentum across the lineup. At the #2 spot, Ajer Sher dropped just two sets, defeating Morgan 6-2, 6-0 for the first singles point of the day. Liew also showed efficiency, taking down his Warhawk opponent in two sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Timothy Nguyen found a second-set push to close out his match in straight sets at #5 singles, and Kane Kelley recorded another win at #4 for the Maroons.
To close out the sweep, Alexander Ekstrand battled past 26th-ranked Theo Billson in straight sets, 7-6, 7-5, for one of the toughest wins of the day. The final point came at the #6 spot, where Li bounced back after dropping the second set to secure a three-set win and complete the sweep.
