No. 1 UChicago Rolls Through Rochester in First Round of UAA Tournament
The top-ranked University of Chicago men's tennis team defeated the University of Rochester on Thursday morning in the first round of the UAA championship. After dominating to earn the doubles point, the Maroons clinched the team win just over an hour later in singles play.
In less than 30 minutes, UChicago earned the doubles point. Markus Ekstrand and Alexander Ekstrand earned the quickest win of the day, in 24 minutes, 6-2 at the #1 spot. Just four minutes later, both the #2 and #3 doubles solidified the point. Gopal Koduri and Shrikeshav Murugesan earned the 6-3 win, while Jack Wong and Robert Zhang captured the 6-1 win over the Yellowjackets.
In singles play, the Maroons quickly overpowered Rochester. Michael Choi took the first win for UChicago, beating his Yellowjacket opponent 6-1, 6-0 in 53 minutes. Emil Grantcharov finished shortly after, defeating Rochester's Wang 6-0, 6-1.
Ajer Sher picked up the final two-set win at #5 singles with a score of 6-1 in both sets to finalize the 4-0 win for UChicago.
Shrikeshav Murugesan, Alexander Ekstrand, and Christian Liew were all leading in their second sets before the match was clinched.
