TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis: 19-15, 10-9 UAA.
  • Emory: 20-17, 9-10 UAA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After holding Emory to two runs in each of the first two games of the series, the Judges got their third straight start of more than seven innings from Skourides.
  • Skourides scattered four hits over his nine innings of work. He struck out six, walked three and hit three batters, throwing 129 pitches, 77 for strikes.
  • Skourides stranded an Emory runner at third base in both the second and third innings, then settled down and allowed just one Eagle to reach second base the rest of the way.
  • Brandeis got all the scoring they would need in the top of the fourth inning, getting four straight hits with two outs. After first-year catcher Quinn Lanagan (Raynham, Mass./Xaverian) and classmate SS Noah Koong (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake) singled, sophomore RF Bobby Quill (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham Regional) doubled to left to drive home both runners.
  • Sophomore 3B Ben Kuja (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) bounced one through the right side to plate Quill and make it 3-0.
  • The Judges added single runs in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. They used small ball in the sixth, as Koong singled, got bunted to second by Qull and scored on Kuja's second RBI of the game.
  • In the seventh, junior CF Connor Crowley (Guilford, Conn./Notre Dame-West Haven) singled, stole second and moved third when the throw sailed into the outfield. Lanagan hit a sacrifice fly to make it 5-0.
  • They scored an unearned run without a hit in the eighth, as junior 2B Matt Chafin (Canton, Mass./Canton) reached on an error to lead off the inning. He moved to second after a hit batter, third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on junior LF Henry Aronwald's (Rye Brook, N.Y./Trinity Pawling) grounder to third.
  • Emory threatened in the bottom of the eighth with a one-out single and a walk, but Skourides got a three-pitch strikeout and a first-pitch fly to center. He set the home team down in order in the ninth to secure the win, improving to 3-3 on the season.
  • The bottom of the Brandeis order of Lanagan, Koong and Quill went 7-12 with a double, four runs scored and three RBI. Quill had a game-high three hits and two RBI, tied with Kuja, while Koong scored twice.
  • Kuja and Crowley each had two stolen bases, and Quill had one.
  • With the win, the Judges clinch their first winning season since going 18-16 2022 and post their highest win total since going 19-17-1 in 2016 in head coach Derek Carlson '91's first season.
  • The Judges reached 10 wins in the UAA for the first time since the league went to full on-campus series in 2017. They also guarantee their best series result against Emory since on-campus play started, with a chance to win the series and clinch a winning conference mark.
  • With three games left in the season, Brandeis can reach 20 wins in a campaign for the first time since 2011.
