NYU Wins Seventh-Place Match on Final Day of UAA Competition

#7 Violets Secure Victory Over #8 Rochester

The New York University men's tennis team secured a seventh-place finish at the University Athletic Association (UAA) championship following a dominant 4–0 sweep over the University of Rochester on Saturday at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

The Violets opened the match by claiming the doubles point, winning two of the three contests.

At No. 1, the duo of Niklas von Hellens and Bryan Hui posted a 6–2 win, while the No. 2 pair of Shido Ito and Jeh-Lei Fan earned a 6–1 victory. The No. 3 match went unfinished However, the No. 3 tandem of Louis Frowein and Kaustav Guttikonda was leading 4–2 at the time the point was clinched.

The Violets kept the momentum strong in singles play to capture three victories and secure the overall team win.

At No. 1, von Hellens was dominant, posting a 6–3, 6–1 win. At No. 3, Frowein won his match in straight sets. He took a grueling first-set tiebreak 10–8 to win 7–6, before cruising to a 6–1 win in the second. Guttikonda at No. 6 posted a 6–4, 6–2 win to clinch the fourth and final point for NYU.

Several other Violets were performing well when their matches were called. At No. 2, Hui was leading 4–1 in the third set after splitting the first two.  At No. 4, Ito was also in a third set, leading 1–0, while Fan at No. 5 had just begun a third set.
