Lucy Harrison-Caldwell Bags Hat Trick as UChicago Dismantles Redlands
The third-ranked University of Chicago women's soccer team claimed their fifth win of the season on Sunday afternoon with a dominant 5-0 win over Redlands.
The Maroons were firing on all cylinders in the California sun on Sunday as they took an early lead and never relinquished it. Nola Sherrod scored her first career goal in the 27th minute on a beautiful through ball from Kaitlyn Gomez to put the Maroons in front 1-0. Then, just 47 seconds later, Lucy Harrison-Caldwell doubled the UChicago lead on a perfect pass from Annabel Edwards.
In the second half, Karena Shah scored her first goal of the season as Indira Naylor found her with a perfectly placed ball into the box, and Shah slotted it home past the keeper for a 3-0 lead in the 50th minute. Naylor was just getting started with that assist as she recorded two more in the next 15 minutes.
Harrison-Caldwell and Naylor played a little two-person game with some give-and-go combinations as Harrison-Caldwell tallied her brace in the 60th minute and added a hat trick with her third goal in the 63rd minute, both off of assists from Naylor to seal the 5-0 victory.
The UChicago offense dominated all game as the Maroons outshot the Bulldogs 32-7 overall in the game. Amanda Kayari made three save in 67 minutes in goal, and Lauren Anderson added a save in the final 23 minutes en route to the third consecutive clean sheet for UChicago.
With the win, the Maroons improve to 5-0 on the season.
